I was so blessed to photograph the arrival of this little angel. Mom and dad laboured at home through early labor and transition, and called me when they were on their way to the hospital... which of course was in the middle of the night. Babies like to come at night ;) A beautiful natural birth, she arrived safely into this world at 9lbs 12oz. One of my favourite moments was when her and her mommy looked directly into one another's eyes to meet for the very first time, after knowing each other intimately for the past nine months. We continued with a photo session within the first 48 hours to capture all the "newness" and love that comes home with a newborn.
All births are the same, but at the same time so different. This handsome little guy was born after a long and winding road took mom and dad to a completely different hospital than they had planned. In the end, that ended up being a wonderful blessing. Mom's labor and delivery were so beautiful, and so life affirming. With only two hours from the time her water broke until this healthy 10 lb 5 oz bundle of boy was born, it was the perfect birth with no interventions. Mom had to spend a bit of time with the doctors after baby was born, and capturing the love and tenderness of dad caring for his son in those first few hours was one of the most beloved things I have ever photographed.
This beautiful birth was not only a water birth, but a home birth as well. Baby W was born into a peaceful and loving environment with her daddy there to catch her, and her big sister right by her side. Mom was the epitome of calm, even when we didn't know if the midwife was going to make it on time. (She arrived as dad caught baby... it was perfect.) This birth was so full of love, strength and confidence. I was honoured to be in the space.
Take one beautiful baby boy, a glowing mom and a handsome daddy, throw in some cute props and some amazing light and watch the magic. I knew this baby's daddy when he was only a baby. Seeing this little boy only days old was like walking back in time and seeing his dad twenty five years ago. Thank you Justin and Cady for sharing your precious bundle with me and my camera.
This little angel was my second newborn shoot for the same couple. How fortunate I was to be able to capture the images of this sweet baby girl, and see the amazing family resemblances to her big brother whom I had photographed just a few years earlier. What an honour to be invited back for an encore. As we worked through the afternoon, the light began to stream in the family room windows. As we were just wrapping up, I was able to capture the beautiful and dramatic shots of mommy mesmerized by her beautiful baby girl.
This little bundle of boy was the very first baby I photographed. I don't know if many people are fortunate enough to know the exact moment they found their passion in life, but I am indebted to this sweet baby for helping me to find mine. He is now a big brother, and is already starting preschool. What a joy to look back at these photos and see not only where I began, but also how far I have come. Thank you Mr. R!
Documentary photography is a relatively new idea in mainstream photography circles. It is a look at a day in the life of your family. Honest, beautiful and real, this style of photography triggers wonderful memories of day-to-day life and routines, favourite places and treasured moments... Capture a day in your life to hold on to forever and pass on to your children, and their's.
Birthdays are so much fun. What an honour to be invited back to capture the images of this wonderful milestone in this handsome little boy's life. We scheduled this session the day before his birthday party so he could be the star of the show! Oh, those eyelashes...
A year has passed in the blink of an eye. This is the most handsome little boy, with the smile of an angel, and a heart as gentle as a lamb. To say this was a cake "smash" is a bit of a stretch, it was more of a cake "sampling". My absolute favourite shot is when sister is trying to give him a kiss, and he is giving his mom a look that says everything every little brother has ever felt at that moment. :)
